Pont de la Cisse Version anglaise

In Limeray, the Cisse is spanned by a bridge. It has mentioned in the cartulary of Moncé since the end of the 13th century. The bridge was restored in the late 17th century and in the 19th century.

The Cisse has its source in Beauce at the north of Blois, in the Loir-et-Cher, and flows 85 kilometers further in the Loire in Vouvray. The toponym « Cisse » is of pre-Celtic origin, and literally means “loop-loop” because of the many circonvolutions of this stream. This river crosses 3 natural areas: Beauce, Gâtine and the Loire Valley.

The ligerian Cisse (portion of the river in the Loire Valley) is classified as a protected natural site since 1983. Its watershed is considered as a ZNIEFF zone (Natural Area of Floristic and Fauna interest) NATURA 2000 since 1994. The river was not regularly maintained over the centuries. Nevertheless, a regulation of maintenance of its course appeared in 1847, and is still in effect today.
